It's unlikely you will need to mess with xrandr.  Under the xfce menu 
system, go to Settings->Display.  With an additional monitor connected, 
you should see the new monitor and be able to configure it's position 
and behavior.  At least that's what I can do with xfce4 under CentOS 7.
