[PLUG] fixed pattern in laptop screen

The latest observation is that since using the machine this morning the
problem has not appeared. The laptop sits closed on power overnight. I
unplug the power, open it, and sign in. I have not moved it since nor have
I moved the screen. It has been more than 4 hours. I think this rules out
the heat idea. Soon I will move the screen relative to the keyboard and
see if the problem comes back. I expect it will, unless it is a software
issue, which seems very unlikely.
