Message-ID: <1039574375.28362.25114.camel@Dustpuppy> Here's a koan for you... If you have a good job in hell, is it still a good job? I've finally found a good job (that required me to relocate), one I definitely enjoy w/ reasonable pay & good challenges, but *everything* outside the job SUCKS. Since moving here, we've become crime victims, been cheated for a pretty sizable amount of money, & found that a lot of the things we were promised simply don't exist. We've left friends, family & "little", more esoteric things such as doctors & a car repair shop that we trust. My family is absolutely miserable here, & that's what's weighing on me the most. Am I a freaking idiot for even thinking of going back to PDX? Are things as rough as they were a year ago? I'd like to hear what things are like back there. Thanks. There was an article just in today's (or maybe yesterdays) paper talking about how there is still an ever increasing amount of people going to adult & family services for assistance with food, rent and utilities. I personally just went today because I'm half way expecting to be unemployed for a while due to the economy. I just got laid off a couple weeks ago because the company closed their Portland office. Don't know if others are having different experiences, but my family and I have discussed relocating somewhere else as well. I mean you got to do what you got to do to support your family, right? P.S. In case anybody is looking for a good UNIX administrator you can find my resume online at http://www.setec-astronomy.biz/resume-complete.html where you can download a word and/or plain text version at the bottom of that page. And to make matters even worse, not even doing network/system/security administration but Atmospheric Science (will do Atmospheric Science for food) as a Senior Research Scientist! I'm going to get real stale if I can't get back into the business. However, I've come to the realization that, at least my future, does not reside in Oregon. We grew to love the place, but I've got to keep the family in food and shelter. The house is on the market and they'll follow me when it sells. What a crappy choice to make, food or great living conditions...
