I was just looking over the PLUG Jobs mail archives and saw your e-mail from
earlier this month.  I work extensively with Linux and Samba, and I have a
number of clients in the small-business market.  I also have skills in the
Windows arena.  I typically work on a "time and materials" basis, so I would
only charge when your friend needs me to do something.  If I have remote
access to a client system, then my minimum charge is only a 1/10th of an
hour -- which goes a long ways towards bringing costs down.
