If this looks like something that is down your alley, please send me your name and email, and I will forward the information to the recruiter. I did speak with the recruiter, and she doesn't know much more about the position yet. She is going to talk to the client tomorrow and pass on some questions I have about what they need. I'll update with any pertinent information, especially if it doesn't look like it'll be a fit for me. Below is the body of the email that was sent to me: __________________________________________________ I found your resume online and wanted to check with you about your availability for some linux network administration and design work. This may only be a short term contract but they?re also bringing folks onboard so I?ll have to stay close to the client and see what develops and if there is a possibility of staying on. It?s a semiconductor design company here in Portland. They?re looking for someone to come in and look at their mostly Linux network environment to evaluate and probably improve their security. Also, they?ll need some help improving the setup as the company grows. It would be on a contractor basis to do the evaluation, improvements and occasional maintenance at this time. What do you think? Can you call me or email me if you may be interested in doing this work now? Thanks! I look forward to hearing back from you, __________________________________________________ Best regards, Daniel M. It's still open. I'll be meeting with the client on Monday, but as we all know, there are no guarantees in this life. If this looks interesting, it can't hurt to express interest. Here's what I know of the gig: It's for a small semiconductor R&D shop here, with more of the company in Taipai. Right now they have CentOS 5.3 and 5.4 on Dell servers. They don't have an IT department, their Sr Design Engineer does the IT stuff. They?re using Open VPN and Samba. Security with the rest of the company in Taiwan is their primary concern; protecting the IP from theft. They?re looking for an assessment of their security and systems, as well someone to develop a backup/disaster recovery plan. The next priority is their email; currently they?re using Google, they want some sort of groupware/collaboration solution, and are considering implementing Exchange and Sharepoint. They may be able to be talked into an open source alternative like Open-Xchange. They are expecting the project to take a couple of months. They?re also moving, around March, for bigger digs. This may be a chance for more work. Email Darla Marmon (darlam at decisionci.com) if you're interested. Forward this to anyone who may benefit. -- Best regards, Daniel M.
