About you You will be administering a Linux high performance computing cluster (HPCC) as well as a Lustre distributed file system in a dynamic academic environment. You will be helping us continually develop our computational resources to meet our growing needs. You are excited by the prospect of being involved in cutting-edge computer science research. In addition, you will be responsible for managing a medium-sized research computing network, consisting of commercial file servers, network switches, printers, DNS and DHCP. As part of this, you will be working directly with IT personnel in our University. Responsibilities: - Work closely with faculty, staff, and students to identify and meet organizational research computing needs. - Configure maintain & monitor existing network infrastructure including file servers, NIS authentication servers, networked backup devices, etc. - Configure, maintain & monitor HPCC infrastructure including computation nodes, a distributed file system and related software. - Configure, maintain & monitor system backups and disaster recovery. - Configure, maintain & monitor a Hadoop system. - Perform regular upgrades and rebuilds of software, occasionally at off-hours for minimizing interruption. - Collaborate with existing departmental and organizational support to co-ordinate and plan system growth. - Support faculty, staff, and students in their use of our computing infrastructure. - Liaise with other IT personnel elsewhere in the University. - Configure, maintain & monitor network for optimum performance & security. - Keep abreast of technical knowledge needed to support new equipment, software and systems. Requirements: - At least 2 years of system or network administration in a heterogeneous computing environment, or related experience. - Skilled in administering and managing Linux (Ubuntu/CentOS/RHEL) and Mac environments. - Knowledge of system and network administration including NIS, Lustre file systems, RAID storage systems, PXE boot, DHCP, DNS, Apache, PHP, mail, Amanda, RT, Nagios and Ganglia. - Familiarity managing and/or using HPCC administrative tools such as Condor. - Knowledge or familiarity with Hadoop is a *significant* plus. - High degree of analytical abilities, diagnostic skills and technical aptitude. - Excellent communication skills. - Must excel at working independently. - Ability to be on-call 24 x 7 for rare occasions. - Familiarity with Windows Server is useful, especially with VMWare console, Active Directory, print server, and WTS. - Bachelors degree in Computer Science or related field, or significant work experience.
