NWEA is seeking a Systems Architect at our downtown Portland location. We're not looking for a traditional Systems (Infrastructure) Architect who has "been-there-done-that." Rather, we are looking for a thought leader; a technical visionary willing to push the boundaries of "what is" and guide us to the limits of "what it could be" as a leader in providing software as a service. NWEA is a global not-for-profit educational & software services company that's been in business for nearly 40 years. Our flagship product , MAP(r), is used by U.S. school districts, education agencies and international schools. We look for talented individuals who desire to make a difference in education by demonstrating a commitment to our mission: Partnering to help all kids learn(r)
If you have a passion for education and the desire to make a difference in the lives of students across the globe, this could be the ideal opportunity for you.
As a senior member of our Product Engineering-Technical Operations team, the Systems Architect is responsible for translating and supporting business needs by designing, building and maintaining a technology infrastructure that meets the evolving needs of NWEA's partners and staff. This includes but is not limited to: designing and creating separate and redundant systems to provide development, QA, and production environments; ensuring that network and server-based systems are operational and available 24 hours a day, 365 days a year; considering the interdependencies between hardware and software in all decision-making; and standardizing on technologies and frameworks that support the performance, reliability, scalability, security, sustainability, and accuracy of these systems.
What we need from you:
* Expert level understanding of Linux and Windows systems management and design, configuration management and scripted automation
* Systems Architecture experience working with others from Data and Applications arenas to create and maintain enterprise architecture blueprints and roadmaps
* Expert knowledge of TCP/IP networking, fiber fabric switching, SAN architecture and configuration
* Mature decision making skills
* Familiarity with the following technologies: Windows, Linux (Red Hat / CentOS preferred), PostGreSQL, MongoDB, SQL Server, Puppet, Jenkins, Exchange, Active Directory and other Open Source software components
* Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including ability to document existing and newly-developed designs, plans and procedures
* Experience with infrastructure support for multi-tier, web-based applications
* Ability to innovate and create options for HW configurations with existing hardware
* High degree of analytical abilities and technical aptitude
* Ability to assess the effectiveness of processes and procedures, and recommend improvements
* Ability to identify barriers to progress and propose solutions
* Minimum ten years of increasing responsibility in a technical environment
* Experience in vendor relations and contract negotiations for program/project outsourced services and products
* Experience with Agile methodologies
This is a full-time opportunity with competitive compensation, outstanding benefits package and career growth opportunities.
