Howdy from Dallas TX! We are down here visiting my wife's sister.
My brother-in-law and I went to "third Saturday", a mid-sized
computer flea market. Unfortunately, he is a M$ slave-ware addict,
and afterwards wanted to go to the PC Users Group meeting at the
Microsoft building at 10AM.  Fortunately, I learned of an alternative;
the North Texas Linux User's Group was meeting at the same time at the
Nokia headquarters, two blocks away. Unfortunately, they did not
have a speaker. Fortunately, I had my laptop and an updated version
of the dirvish presentation with me (prepared for, but not accepted
at, OSCON). So, with little warning for them and for me, I presented
my dirvish talk at their meeting. There were about 50 people in the
audience. They were gracious and asked some good questions.

We had a nice "afters" lunch. One of the fellows at lunch, Patrick,
is heading the work on the Perl 6 compiler; I had dinner with him
at Calendula when he came to OSCON last July. I told them about
some of the good stuff the community is doing in Portland; they
were especially fascinated by the success of Freegeek, and expressed
interest in emulating it. Freegeeks, take note!

If you ever find yourself near Dallas on a third Saturday afternoon,
stop by NTLUG and meet these good folk. It is fascinating to talk
Linux wifi drivers with a 60yo rancher. http://www.ntlug.org .
