The testosterone-fueled pissing contests between the left and right
aside  ...

Everyone here who has not filled out an advanced directive is risking
this same nastiness happening to their loved ones.  You will need to
locate someone willing to act as your personal representative, an
alternate, and two other witnesses.  Sounds like a good excuse for
a dinner party for 3 or more couples.

If you have a serious medical condition that can put you in a hospital,
you should also consider preparing a POLST form:

These are not complicated forms, though the issues involved will
require a lot of soul-searching .
