In the order they come to my mind:

 - Full bluetooth functionality
Current Verizon phones have capabilities like file transfer crippled out of
existance.

 - CIM Card support
When you get a new phone you must "program" it to work with Verizon, a time
consuming PITA. This involves either a trip to a Verizon store or a visit to
their (sub optimal) website and digging around to find the place where you can
program your phone.

 - Open phone choice
It's frustrating to have your handset choice dictated by the carrier. It makes it
very difficult to get the preferred mix of features.
