>From a financial newsletter we get:
Microsoft revealed that it is making an unsolicited, i.e., "hostile,"
bid to acquire Yahoo. On Thursday the software giant sent a letter to
Yahoo's board of directors offering $44.6 billion for the Internet
services provider, noting that the Internet advertising market is
"increasingly dominated by one player" (Google) and "together, Microsoft
and Yahoo can offer competitive choice while better fulfilling the needs
of customers and partners." Yahoo's directors said they would "evaluate
the proposal carefully." The offer price represents a 62% premium over
the closing price of Yahoo's shares on Thursday. Today, Yahoo's stock
(YHOO) gained nearly 48% and Microsoft (MSFT) fell 6%.
