I'm in no way an expert about HSAs but after using one for several years
through work my impression is that they are simply a way to pay for medical
expenses with pre-tax income.  That is, it's a way to pay your deductable
and copays in a tax free way.  This means its a great way to cover the
deductable in a high deductable plan or cover alternative health care, but
it's not really a way to foot the bill if something serious happens.  I'm
pretty sure, but again not an expert, that the IRS rules support this point
of view by providing limits on how much can go into the HSA annually.
