Saw Avatar last night and noticed the 3D glasses were not red/cyan. Which got
me to wondering how the 3D was produced.
Turns out they use
circular polarization with each frame (film is 24 fps) projected three time
per eye for a total of 144 fps of screen flicker.
If you're going
to see the movie I recommend the 3D (Roseway theater for a locally owned
venue) for the Geek value. At points in the movie flying insects
and drifting cinders appear to be only three rows away from you as if they
could drift down onto people in the audience.
