The last time I remember hearing 'bushel' as a measurement was when Mom
took me with her to buy 'ein bushel birne,' which was her way of saying
'a bushel of pears.' She often did that English-Deutsch intermischung
hoping that, by throwing in some English, I would actually understand
her.
I was a child then and I don't think I have heard the term used as a
measurement since. And, other than the song lyric, I don't think I have
ever heard 'peck' as a measurement. Or 'firkin' or 'heap.'
