Afaict, NFC is just another way of saying RFID.  I have a Nexus S from
last December.  Almost the entirity of my experience with it so far is
from setting my phone down on a multcolib book and having it flash a
"Unknown Tag" message at me.

Merchants are eager to get out from under the credit card monopoly and
their rapacious fees.  I get that.  I assume the push for things like
Google Wallet is part of that.
