Sonic is a really interesting company. Ars Technica wrote a neat article about them earlier this year:

http://arstechnica.com/tech-policy/2012/02/gigabit-internet-for-80-the-unlikely-success-of-californias-sonicnet/

I don't know how I feel about the "Linux" license plates but I think it's great that their CEO personally answers customers' emails.

As long as we are citing the business press:

  http://www.forbes.com/sites/ciocentral/2012/08/01/the-economics-of-the-google-gigabit/

One thing the author misses is the reason the Sonic.net dude in
California cites in how he does a gigabit for $70/month. At least in
the short term, by and large, he says, it doesn't increase the amount
of data that each subscriber wants/gets, but merely gets it to them
quicker. As a result, the aggregate bandwidth consumed by his users
doesn't go up very much. So, his upstream bandwidth expenses don't
really go up significantly.
