   I've heard that Sears changed their policy on appliances. It used to be
(at least in the 1970s which was the last time I bought a Kenmore) that
Sears had their appliances built by various factories but to their own,
slightly non-standard, specs.

   I had a washer (or dryer, I forget which) that needed a switch. The
appliance parts vendors I called in Champaign/Urbana and Chicago told me I
had to buy the switch from Sears as it was just different enough that no
other replacement would work. And I did pay a lot more for it. That was my
last Sears appliance.
