[PLUG-TALK] Using an iPhone in Linuxland

I'm my wife's tech support. She will be partnering with someone
commited to iPhone and wanting to share business-related apps
and information, so my wife will be getting an iPhone as well.
We run Linux on everything now, home and business, don't use
computers for games or close-source entertainment, and still
use low-feature flip phones. She won't be using the iPhone
for entertainment or copyrighted content, tarting it up with
ringtones and fancy images, downloading zillions of apps.
I'm not interested in geeking out and jailbreaking the
iPhone unless we absolutely must in order to move our
own data to and from Linux.
What problems can we expect with iPhone/Linux interoperability,
or lack thereof? What will I need to do to maintain this new
machine at some basic level, and back up its data to something
we own?
