Generation 2. What was called USB 3.0 is now called USB 3.1 Generation
1. Generation 2 is twice as fast as Generation 1. Don't ask why this
name change was necessary. As you shop you will find few vendors whose
web information makes it clear which one their device provides.

I recently put together a new desktop in which I wanted Generation 2
ports. After much searching I discovered that no one makes a
motherboard with Generation 2 ports. The only way I could get them was
with an add-on device from Asrock that uses up a 5.25" bay.
