Sorry, typo.  2.5 it is.  Actually, the case is 2.744
inches wide, and I have no idea what diameter the disk
is inside it. :-)

With the metal tray and elastomer bumpers it is 2.915
inches wide, and squeezes down below 2.8 inches if I
push hard on the jaws of my Japanese-made dial caliper. 

As I look at the assembly, I'm astounded at how cleverly
it is designed for shock and vibration isolation, given
the tiny space it crams into.  But then, I'm amazed that
systems assembled from components produced all over the
world manage to fit together with such precision, such
that even the designed-in gaps do their job exactly.

But then, the same is true of me, assembled from parts
originating in Sweden, Finland, England, and Africa ...
the components fit with nanometer tolerances, though
the assembled result rarely does its job exactly.
