Dope slap time.
I kept all the old "failed" fans. The rotor/blade
assemblies lift right off the pivots. I lubricated
the pivots with Triflow lubricant oil; ALL THE FANS
ARE WORKING AGAIN.
So, the problem is LUBRICANT FAILURE.
Liquid lubricant oil is easy, but NOT the right way
to lubricate a fan pivot in a dusty environment.
So, I will clean off the Triflow (perhaps with small
paint brushes and acetone) and use a dry lubricant.
Xiurdz merely used the wrong lubricant (though the
rotor sleeve and pin may not be smooth enough).
Can anyone here suggest the highest quality, longest
life DRY lubricant I can put on the fan pivot pins so
they last a very very long time without maintenance?
This hypothetical lubricant would be goot to have at
Linux Clinic; when a laptop is open for other reasons,
remove the fan and give it a permanent lube job.
