Verizon Northwest wasn't bad for a telecom company; service
and pricing went to hell when they were bought by Frontier.
Mike Rogoway informs us that Frontier sold their northwest
operations to WaveDivision Capital and Searchlight Capital
Partners for $1.4 billion.

It is way too early to tell whether they will restore good
service to their 350,000 customers in Oregon, Washington,
Idaho and Montana. I hope so. However, WaveDivision
Capital (headquartered in Kirkland, WA) is associated with
Wave Broadband ... which has a lot of bad reviews on Yelp.
We switched from Frontier to Comcast Business, which has
been good to us, though slower. We still have an unpowered
Verizon-installed optical network terminal in the garage,
and the incoming single-mode fiber is still attached.
We will probably stay with Comcast, but I hope the
competition expands price/performance/service options
for our neighbors (freeing more cable bandwidth for us).
