In Hebrew, a medial 'b' sound (that is, the letter beth found in the 
middle of a word) typically is sounded 'v'; so 'abi' ("my father") is 
usually pronounced "avi." My understanding is that the same is true in 
Arabic, where "Ibrahim" is pronounced "Ivrahim."
