I would note that there is electricity today in "the middle of nowhere"
thanks to an 80 year old, very successful thing called Rural
Electrification. So, the basic backhaul infrastructure mostly
exists. Local access for vehicles still needs work. I know people who
have driven PDX to LA in a Tesla, with recharging stops not too much
longer or more frequent than you might have with gas. You should stretch
your legs occasionally anyway.
