If you're not aware of the MERV scale for home furnace filters you can learn

Numbers run 1--20, but you need to learn the maximum number your furnace
supports. Too small the holes, the more stress on the furnace machinery and
the shorter its life.

One could probably rig mounting ribbons to sizes 17--20 and wear it as a
face mask. Much better than toilet paper.
