This misery is not of the biblical type - people have been working on it
for decades.
We all heard the coal/oil county saying "burn baby burn". It is also almost
2 decades after the famous All Gore's film. We learned about this coming
and need to change in high the high school in late 80s. Yes, 30+ years ago,
there was consensus about climate change.
Anyway - past references are not valid - this year is 5-10x worse than the
last. We are on cubic or exponential curve - the next years will likely put
this one to shame until there is nothing more to burn.
This time last year fires burned 200k acres, this year about 2.5M acres.
500k evacuated onlu in OR - can anyone remember that? Completely out of
scale with the past experience.
I have friends, educated smart people, who are still saying that there have
always been fires, and if only we had more firemen or let it burn more or
chop down more trees or get more competent republican government .... Crazy
world! ...
The costs of inaction are already astronomical - yet we cannot even control
car/powerplant emissions because it would cost $20b over the next decade.
