For my wife's Chromebook (with very few ports), we purchased
a Targus USB-C multifunction adapter. That expands a USB-C
port on the Chromebook into a USB-A port, a VGA port, and
two more USB-C ports, powered by the Chromebook's USB-C port.
We can use the Targus adapter's USB-A port for flash drives.
Or a ball mouse; touch-pads aren't for old jittery hands.
We also purchased a "UNI" USB-C to Cat5 ethernet adapter
dongle, which connects directly to a port on our Comcast
cable modem.
We sometimes connect the VGA port to our ancient InFocus
video projector and watch web videos. In spite of all the
kludges and potential incompatibilities, It Just Works.
The addon devices are small, and Gorilla-taped to the back
of the Chromebook screen. Cable management and trip hazard
is a remaining concern.
Still - we spend 90% of our creative screen time using
Linux machines behind a Linux firewall. The Chromebook is
our virtual "goat tied to a stake", distracting predators
while we hide our high-value and high-security assets.
