I had a LaserJet IIIp for 15 years or so and then a LaserJet 1022 for
perhaps 10 years. They both worked great connected to a JetDirect
device. The former printer just wore out, probably from a mildly dusty
environment, and I got rid of the latter because we needed a scanner a
few years ago and I saw no reason to maintain two printers.

That was when I started using a Brother printer+scanner, which has
been fine and has the added advantage that it works great for printing
from phones and tablets.

I've never had a bad experience with a laser printer, but then again
neither of my LaserJets required (or even had) native ethernet access.
