Last time I looked, much of my spam was coming from
digitalocean.com, and half of the penetration attempts;
100,000 on one day, a few weeks ago.
Yes, one tenth of a million probe attacks directed at my
server URL alone. I would guess billions of attempts
against all websites everywhere, every day.
I tried complaining to digitalocean about one specific
IP address (out of dozens); their webform deletes work
when guessing about which information goes where,
and the field formatting is ultrafinicky.
Those frustrating attempts cost hours of work. Rich and I
should write a guide: "how to complain to digital ocean."
I would prefer to have a "block these IP address ranges"
local tool that rejects ALL the digitalocean domains
(bad or good).
Also, a group of volunteers identifying their
legitimate customers (if any) and helping them move
to a less trashy internet business neighborhood.
I'd call the tool "douche", because protects our
sisters (and brothers) from digital ocean infection.
But, that's not funny.
