Willamette Valley solar makes as much sense as a cactus
farm. The best sunlight is in Arizona. In a rational
world, I could invest in solar panels there, sell the
power to Southern California Edison, and displace a wee
bit of BPA power sent south on the Pacific DC Intertie.
That makes the best use of solar panels, and power lines.
Property tax rates are lower in most of Arizona as well.
For virtue signalling, I could paint fake solar panels on
my Oregon roof, though the black surface would make my
house a wee bit hotter in the summer. It might help warm
the house in winter ... if we ever have another winter.

P.S. With climate zones moving north, some hardy varieties
of avocado tree can grow here. It may not be long before
we CAN grow cactus.
