[PLUG-TALK] Telephone question

There's 3 ways I have seen that headsets can be connected to desk telephones
First is you have a special headset jack in the base of the phone that has
connections for on/off hook as well as the audio that uses special headsets
(Jabra, etc.)
Second is you have a gadget called a "lifter" that mounts to the phone and
lifts and drops the handset, that uses a regular corded headset/mic
Last is you have phones like the Cisco 8845 running MPP firmware that have
Bluetooth in them and you can use any Bluetooth headset
You want the last option. The other stuff is all specialty junk that is
usually only designed for a few different headsets.

Subject: [PLUG-TALK] Telephone question
I use an AGPtec SOHO call center corded telephone with wired headset as an
extension phone on my compter desk. It works great but the audio output
leaves much to be desired, especially with my older ears.
The phone has a RJ9 jack for the headset.
What makes corded headsets limited to certain telephone brands and models?
Or, do those limits apply only to wireless headsets? I want to purchase a
replacement wired headset with higher quality audio output so I'm curious
why any headset with an RJ9 plug wouldn't work with any phone with a RJ9
audio output jack.
With the abundant telephone expertise here I'm sure that I'll learn what I
need to know.
TIA,
Rich
