[PLUG-TALK] Why unsubscribing from ecommerce messages take so long?

Knowing that all ecommerce sites are fully computerized why does it take
24-72 hours to enable unsubscribing from un-wanted/non-opted-in sales
messages?
The latest example is Newegg. I placed an order yesterday and unchecked the
box to opt-in to all their sales pitches. Later a sales message arrived. I
followed the very large character link to unsubscribe and was informed that
I was.
Just now another message appeared. Following the link to unsubscribe again
I saw that the system said I was (again) unsubscribed, but it would take up
to 72 hours to be effective. Why? If unsubscribing involved removing my
email address from their sales message database table it should be
instantaneous. After all, when I delete a database table row it's gone.
None of these ecommerce sites take 24-72 hours to enter orders so
unsubscribing should be just as quick ... IMO.
A curious mind wants to know.
