It won't ding if they have not given the email app permissions to do
notifications. Most users turn off notifications from email apps because
they are just annoying.

Subject: [PLUG-TALK] email hours etiquette
For many decades, I sent email to computers that I and my correspondents log
into. No ding or beep when a message arrives. If a conversation is urgent,
I watch a scrolling window for replies. If it is very urgent, or between
Europe or East Asia, I stay up late for it.
I don't use a "smart" phone (aka dodopaddle), so I don't understand
dodopaddle email timing etiquette in 2025.
If I send an email at 1AM to a friend on the East Coast, does it cause phone
beeps that wake them at 4AM?
I learned years ago to consider time zones when sending email to deployed
military and emergency responders, but is that true for everyone-but-me in
2025?
I am sending this to plug-talk at 1AM PST. Flame me if it wakes you up.
