When sending an email to a friend I noticed this fortune cookie
in my .sig (auto generated new for each email)

"A computer is a state machine.
Threads are for people who can't program state machines."

            - Alan Cox

I've never seen that Alan Cox quote before, so off to google to
find the original discussion it was posted for. In the course
of looking for it I came across:
     http://recycle.lbl.gov/~ldoolitt/attitude.html

Which includes these goodies:

"A society without religion is like a crazed psychopath without a loaded .45"
- David Voth <DVoth at lightspan.com>

"See everything; overlook a great deal; correct a little."
- Pope John XXIII

"Just because the code is intended to cause flaming death is no reason
to get sloppy and leave off the casts."
- Tim Smith <tzs at halcyon.com>, regarding sample (F0 0F C7 C8) Pentium
Death code on comp.os.linux.advocacy

"The sticker on the side of the box said 'Supported Platforms: Windows 95,
Windows NT 4.0, or better', so clearly Linux was a supported platform."
- Nathan Hand <nathan.hand at anu.edu.au>
