This isn't an answer to your question, but may be a partial solution to
your problem -

What Windowmanager are you using?  I think most these days allow you to
hold down the ALT key and drag the window around with the primary mouse
key.. from anywhere, as though you were pulling on the title bar.

>From there maybe you can do a Remember Window Size and Position type
thing?  The options exist in the latest Fluxbox, I know.  Don't know
about your WM, though...
