Following up on myself...

I'm using the AVerKey iMicro. It has VGA input, and RCA and S-Video 
(formerly S-VHS) output. I'm running MythTV at 800x600 on a 21-inch
TV using the RCA output. (My TV doesn't support S-Video.) It's horrible
as a regular computer display but looks good watching TV. Again, it's a
temporary solution. When I'm ready to get that new HDTV I'll rethink the
whole thing.
