[PLUG] Broken 'whois'; why?

For years I've been using 'whois' to identify the domain name associated
with a particular IP address. Now, on the newly-installed Slackware-10.0
system, when I try to run an address using the standard form; e.g.:
                     "whois 80.191.126.26 at whois.ripe.net"
the response is:
"No whois server is known for this kind of object.'

Google returns 17 hits for this string; most in Dutch or French and none
tell me why I see this behavior. Where do I start looking for an answer so I
can fix this?

TIA,

Rich
