Denis,

   C-Kermit? I used a c-kermit script to sample both the GPS receiver and the
depth sonar at defined intervals while I drove the boat across the river in
a series of transects. This allowed me to prepare both 3D and contour
bathymetric maps.

   It's been years, but I still have the book. Kermit is a great tool to
communicate with hardware.
