To edit your interface settings from nm-applet, right-click on the
applet icon and select "Edit Connections...".  This will bring up a
window from which you can select your desired interface, then click
"Edit...".  You'll be presented with a configuration window for the
selected interface.

As I recall, NetworkManager will not manage interfaces that are set up
in the traditional manner.  So you might want to make "blank" copies
of your setup files, and let NM do its thing.  Unfortunately, I know
nothing about how Slackware has its config files arranged, so I can't
help there.
