## copy the dvd to hard disk
mkdir something
cd something
dvdbackup -M

## edit vob file with gopchop http://outflux.net/unix/software/gopchop/

I have experience in backing up DVD's, but not too much in the reverse
of creating DVD's, that said, here is one process that could get your
job done.

Essentially you  follow the instructions in the example at the bottom
of this post
http://unix.stackexchange.com/questions/77834/how-to-rip-a-scratched-dvd-video-a-cdparanoia-for-dvds

but after doing the dvdbackup -m you need to edit the vob file to
remove the unwanted parts.
For that you can use a utility called gopchop
http://gopchop.sourceforge.net/
for which there exists a Debian package, but I don't know about Redhat.

If this does not work, use any mpeg2 video editor.
Then continue the steps in the example to put the DVD back together.
