I just saw your post ( it ended up in my spam folder) and didn't see any
replies.

With virtualbox you have to download and install the USB extension pack to
allow USB 2.0 pass through.  You may also need to set the USB config in
virtualbox to grab it from the host. Then! You should see it in lsusb.
Without it showing up in lsusb the driver won't ever see it
