Hi Ed,

Nothing recently closed.

>From the Window -> Dockable Dialogs menu I put the toolbox and layer manager
up. Then I noticed that the Hide docables checkbox was checked. I didn't do
that deliberately, but un-checking it allows the toolbox and layer manager
to be displayed when GIMP starts.

My web searhes didn't use search strings that found the answers you found.
