I used to be a member of a local fly fishing club. We had the same issue.
Fresh new speakers were difficult to find and anyone worth listening to
wanted to be compensated. We had guys we wanted to invite to talk but
between travel and expenses it was just to expensive. We also had members
who moved out of the area but still wanted to stay in touch.

Given the tech we have available today I think we can solve this problem.
Zoom is the best video conferencing service I have ever used. And, it's
not expensive. And, it's cloud based so (almost) anyone can participate.
For $15 a month we could have a 100 interactive participants, possibly
with one of those being the speaker. I don't attend the meetings because -
well I hate what's happened to downtown Portland. Not sure how many of you
experienced the fire drill at OSCon, but we had to evacuate. I couldn't
even walk 1 block east of the convention center without feeling unsafe.
But, I'd happily attend meetings if we had video conferencing setup.

I'm not exactly sure how the live meeting would integrate with the remote
participants. They also have something called "Zoom Rooms" that lets you
build a room into a software defined video conference room. At a minimum
the meeting room would need a camera, a nice (big) monitor and a
conference admin/host for each event. Could be an interesting experiment.

I'm happy to help work on this.
