Thought you would get a laugh, today I stopped at the Cornell Rd Goodwill and picked up an ASUS RT-ACRH17 for $12.99 That's an AC1700 router although by many accounts the AC1700 was an ASUS marketing lie.
Just finished upgrading it to OpenWRT 23.05.05 per instructions:
https://forum.openwrt.org/t/need-help-installing-openwrt-on-asus-rt-acrh17-rev-1-60-aka-rt-ac42u/155428/1
I also picked up a Netgear WNDR3700v2 for $7.99 I have a few of these in production use. They work well enough as APs although you do have to turn off learning in the switch per https://dev.archive.openwrt.org/ticket/13612.html
