[PLUG] Linksys E8450 for "cheap"

The problem with that sort of approach is you basically have to take the case apart because you can't just drill a hole in the case and assume the drill bit isn't going to go right through the circuit board inside

And that just then gives you a threaded insert in the case which you still need to figure out how to attach to the drywall.

These devices are light, so the ideal way is to use a couple of cheap plastic inserts in the drywall, screw the screws in part way so the heads are sticking out, then put the router on top of them and slide it down a bit to lock it on the wall.

Just about all of them on the market have these preformed holes in the plastic case already. They have plastic separating the screw heads from the circuit board so that there's no risk of shorting anything out.

When I do new installs I have the wiring guy run an ethernet port high up on the wall, almost directly above a courtesy electrical outlet. Then I use an AC adapter with a DC extension cord to power the router. That way I don't have to fiddle around with PoE devices. If people don't like the look of it then a length of plastic wiremold can be used to hide the cord.

For the ceiling mount stuff that requires PoE devices, though.

I have a lot of stuff I wall/under-shelf/mobile mount. I discovered rivnuts, like a pop-rivet, but hollow with a threaded insert. Drill a hole pop in a rivnut and mount it however you want. Got a big bag of thumb screws. I use those angle brackets for furniture repairs.
