( Outside of a dog, a book is man's best friend.
Inside of a dog, it is too dark to read. )
I sometimes use computers outside, now restricted to
dusk or after. I want an easier-to-read external
monitor (line powered) that I can use at noontime
(under a sun umbrella), with nearby brightly painted
walls.
Typical laptop and computer monitor screens are too
dim to read outside at noontime, perhaps 200-300 nits.
Higher brightness external VGA screens are available
on Amazon, 1000 nits or more, from vendors I've never
heard of. What the web pages don't advertise is
"reflectivity", how much ambient light the screen
reflects. Some screen surfaces have anti-reflective
coatings, though I don't know how "cleanable" or
long-lasting those screen surfaces are.
Some very expensive screens from specialized vendors
run as high as 5000 nits. Presumably $$$$, an "if
you have to ask, you can't afford it" situation.
Assume line power, 10 inch or larger, 1Kx768 to
1600x1200, VGA port required (connecting to older
laptops and machines). Other connectors and more
formats OK, superwide screens not so much.
Durability/longevity strongly desired.
Any recommendations from personal experience?
