PEBKAC.
Ben was trying to tell me what was wrong, but I was deaf. There *IS* a
ubi version:
https://downloads.openwrt.org/releases/24.10.0-rc4/targets/mediatek/mt7622/openwrt-24.10.0-rc4-mediatek-mt7622-linksys_e8450-ubi-squashfs-sysupgrade.itb
which somehow I was unable to see. All I could see was:
https://downloads.openwrt.org/releases/24.10.0-rc4/targets/mediatek/mt7622/openwrt-24.10.0-rc4-mediatek-mt7622-linksys_e8450-squashfs-sysupgrade.bin
I clearly can't read while chewing gum. Also, the kernel panic, had I
looked closer, would have been a clue. It was failing to mount
/dev/mtdblock10, which shouldn't exist on the ubi firmware.
However, there *does* seem to be some persistent reboot problem.

Which is weird because BL2 has the same sha256sum as a clearly working
device. Still looking into that.

He'll also demonstrate how to open the case and install an externally accessible serial console connector. If you are interested in obtaining an already OpenWrt-flashed E8450, there will be a limited supply at the event to purchase for the hardware replacement cost: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0998C9T97/

>> PLUG is back at Portland State University. Thanks to the Computer Science Department and to Andrew Greenberg for hosting us! The room is in the basement of the PSU Engineering Building (also connected underground to the Fourth Avenue Building, or FAB). Enter through the Engineering Building. The outside door will be locked, but there should be someone present at the entrance to let you in starting at 6:40pm until 7pm. There will be a sign on the door with a phone number you can SMS if there isn't someone there to let you in immediately.
>>
>> PS: We are going to need a volunteer to hang out by the outside door until start time to let people in, let me know if you are willing to do that. Thanks!
