Interesting USB power measurement devices.  Russell, thank you for the
suggestion and links.

 (1) what range of kernels does the wifi dongle work with?  Or Debian
distros, or other measure of "drivers reaching into the past and future?"

(2) The power indicator displays on the side (and probably displays nothing
if the wifi ports it plugs into are all unpowered).

Is the power information also accessible via the computer USB port itself,
and/or the USB devices (or USB hubs) downstream?

Beyond some limit, "Universal Serial Bus" is only "mostly universal."

FYI:  Amusingly, when I use a Prime account to search the Amazon Pluggable
page for "USB C Power Meter Tester",  I get four hits;

Two seemingly identically-described devices:

... the other delivered on Tuesday for $25.46.  UPC 819927011415

Amusing.  The Amazon Prime search also regurgitates:

Thanks for the pointers.  If/when a remotely-readable version appears, I'll
buy some.   I'd also like to purchase a similar-form-factor device that
counts USB packets and/or bytes.
