I know nothing about Slackware's ntpd setup, so in place of actual 
knowledge, I'd suggest this (all as root):

rc.ntpd stop
ntpdate pool.ntp.org
rc.ntpd start

The ntpdate command will force the system's time to update, even if 
it's a long way out of sync with standard time servers.
