Ben,

Er, yes. The permission issue was not having the file executable, and I
assumed it would be executable by default. Running the ntpdate command after
changing the perms to 755 (which I thought I had done earlier) brought up
the correct time.

Mea culpa for not noticing the executable bits weren't set before.
